Showcasing the work of Toronto artist Susan Vale, this collection of abstract surrealist works entitled “The Boppers” features small drawings and large contemporary acrylic paintings.
About Me
As an arts educator Susan Vale is best known for her transformation of the Visual Arts department of the Claude Watson Arts Program at Earl Haig Secondary School. The program, one of the first of its kind in Canada, was modeled after the LaGuardia High School of Music, Art and Performing Arts in New York City. Toronto’s “Fame” school was quickly honored, both at home and internationally. Cutting edge Visual Arts curriculum and an exhibition mandate, created under Susan’s leadership, made the Visual Arts program a model and inspiration for arts programs in the City and beyond. As an accomplished artist Susan has exhibited in solo and group shows in Toronto and New York. Her work resides in corporate and private collections in Toronto, New York, Atlanta and London England. Susan’s work ranges from meditative works on paper to dramatic surrealist canvases. The mid nineties found Susan pursuing the role of artist as activist. Her deepening involvement in the plight of the disadvantaged and homeless gave Susan the opportunity to combine her love for teaching and making art. Susan has been recognized by the City of Toronto, and the Canadian government for her commitment to social activism.
Exhibitions
The Boppers represent a transformation to renewed life and energy. They are expressions of freedom, liberation, and fierce determination. As intense as they are, they are both playful and flirtatious. They dance, fly and engage in battle. They are youthful, yet aged and wise. They are generous of heart and spirit and affirm promises of kept secrets and shared dreams. They entice you down the yellow brick road.
